This unit has been replaced by PUAEME008 – Provide pain management.

This unit is suitable only for first aiders who already hold or are attending the Occupational First Aid course. It is designed to give the skills and knowledge required for the use of Penthrox ( green whistle ) in pre-hospital care.

Participants must ensure they research the legalities of carrying and using this medication in their specific state. Each state have their own requirements and it may not be legal to carry or use this medication as a first aider in your state.

Courses are available throughout Sydney, Newcastle and the Central Coast.

Course covers:

    • assessment of the pain relief requirements of the patient
    • identify analgesia options
    • preparation of methoxyflurane
    • use of methoxyflurane
    • contraindications of the use of methoxyflurane
    • safe use of methoxyflurane
    • patient handover
    • documentation of the use of methoxyflurane

Target Audience

This unit is normally delivered to Occupational First Aiders or first aiders in the mining industry. It is not normally offered to participants outside of these areas due to legislated restrictions.

Course Requirements

You must hold a current HLTAID011 Provide first aid certification prior to attending this unit. This is a mandatory requirement. 

Basic numeracy and literacy skills are needed to attend this course.

Access to a computer with internet, as well as basic computer skills are required for completion of this unit.

If you have ANY special needs ( eg, language / literacy / numeracy difficulties, physical disabilities etc ) that you think may impact your ability to complete this training please let us know prior to enrolling.

Participants MUST research the legalities relating to the carrying and use of methoxyflurane in their own state / territory

Recertification requirements

Annual refresher for this unit is required

Face to face training is approx. 3 hours

Pre-course study

It is required that you watch the CPR videos as well as read the first aid book available on our website to aid in your understanding of CPR and first aid.

There will be a short quiz at the beginning of the course on the information contained in the videos, this is to enable the trainer to better guide the content of the course for you.
